Hazel Grove Allotments Open Day

Yesterday I went on a fact-finding mission for a photo-project I have in mind and enjoyed a very pleasant afternoon out in the process. Hazel Grove Allotments held their annual open day with the allotments on view to the public and lots of tempting goodies on sale. Janet and I went down with Karrie and Stew (they’re keenly waiting for an allotment) and chatted to some of the allotment holders. We sampled the coffee and cake stall (well it would be churlish not too) and came away with plants for the garden and fresh raspberries for tea. A timeless and very English afternoon out and all in the warm sunshine!

My forthcoming project is more about gardeners than the gardens, but yesterday (in between cake stalls!)  I took the opportunity to shoot a couple of abstract flower details. These poppy seed heads were amongst my favourites..

I’ll keep you posted on the photo-project as it unfolds.

I love the poppy seed head shot Michael – stunning.

Again the poppy head shots are fantastic.
I have spoken to Karrie and Stew today regarding a fantastic
future shot of the Archway that I started over five years ago.
This is the one with the small gate on the cycle path to the
church. In another tho weeks the Hawthorn blossom should be out
and the Photo Shot should be great.

Lines and Curves

Angular buildings, twisting roads, meandering streams, repeating lines, leading lines…..there are lines and curves all around us and they can be used in all kinds of ways to make our photographs more interesting. In Photo Friday last week I highlighted strong diagonal lines that can be used to lead your viewer into the image. You can’t physically make 3D photographs on a two-dimensional page or screen but what you can do is use lines and curves creatively to add an extra dimension to your compositions.  By doing this you can draw your viewer’s attention to the main subject or simply hold their attention for longer by creating a feeling of depth. In other words, 3D without the need for funny glasses!

Sarah’s Modelling Debut

This week we held our first Capture Your Kids workshop and one of our star models was Sarah, our god-daughter. You may remember that Sarah was born with complicated heart problems and she’s had numerous operations since. It’s hard to believe, but only two weeks ago she was still in hospital receovering from her latest open heart operation. If only grown-ups were so resilient!

As you can see, Sarah had a great time with her brothers Joseph and John,  as did our delegates. The course was a great success and we’ll be repeating it on Saturday 22nd October.

Sarah still has a long journey ahead, the heart complications have been repaired for now but will need to be tackled again as she grows, but I’m thrilled to be able to update you with her amazing progress and a fun set of pictures.

Lovely shots Michael! I was really impressed with the photos that Al came home with especially as she’s not picked up the DSLR for a long time. She really enjoyed the day.
